Lessons

Meissner Nordic Ski Club doesn’t offer lessons, but since we frequently get asked about where adults or kids can learn cross-country skiing we’ve put together this list of organizations that offer lessons near Bend.

Bachelor Nordic Center

“Mt. Bachelor’s Nordic Center offers personalized instruction for all ability levels in both techniques of cross-country skiing. Whether you prefer skate or classic, our talented Nordic Instructors can teach you all you need to know in a beautiful fresh air ‘classroom’! Choose from either a daily private lesson, available to individuals or groups (up to 5 people) four times per day, or really hone your skills with one of the several multi-week performance clinics.”

Bend Endurance Academy

“Bend Endurance Academy‚Äôs Nordic programs are designed for all abilities of youth, junior, and adult cross-country skiers. All practice sessions are led by professional, enthusiastic coaches who promote winter fun in a safe environment where skiers improve their skills. Some of our participants are just learning to ski and others are motivated to improve their efficiency and fitness; some may never compete while others are striving to be their best in state, regional, or even national competitions. We teach the joys of nordic skiing and foster a lifelong passion for being outside all year round.”

XC Oregon

“XC Oregon is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit dating back to 1998 focusing on supporting and promoting the sport of Nordic skiing and racing. XC Oregon does not offer any type of regular lessons, but XC Oregon does hold two adult ski education ‘camps’ each season at Mt Bachelor Nordic Center. XC Oregon camps are designed for intermediate to expert track skiers and racers. The Fall Camp is held in early December and the Spring Camp is held in early/mid April. XC Oregon performance skiers also regularly meet up to train together throughout the year for both dryland and on-snow informal and volunteer-led workouts at a variety of locations. XC Oregon volunteers also lead the annual ‘Learn To Ski’ free mini-clinics at Meissner one Sunday every early January.”

All of the high schools in Central Oregon train at Virginia Meissner Sno-Park. For teenagers who want to get involved in Nordic skiing, contact your school and ask about opportunities to join their ski club or team.
