Conservation Alliance “Backyard Collective” work party

On October 11th, the Meissner Nordic Ski Club was the recipient of a trail work day sponsored by the Conservation Alliance, called the “Backyard Collective“.  The conservation group, started 29 years ago by outdoor industry leaders REI, Patagonia, The North Face, and Kelty, who shared the goal of increasing outdoor industry support for conservation efforts, has it’s headquarters in Bend.

Over 80 volunteers, from local companies such as Cairn, Cascade Financial Strategies, Deschutes Brewery, Footzone, Gregory, HydroFlask, Picky Bars, Quick Feat International, Ruffwear and Visit Bend  joined forces with Meissner board members and dedicated volunteers, to complete a few projects.  One group completed a new connector trail, completing the Bitterbrush loop.  A second group did rehabilitation work on the Mushroom trail, while the third group spruced up the trail around the Meissner Shelter.

After a delicious lunch from Sparrow Bakery, the crew enjoyed a grantee fair and learned about projects from local grantees, Central Oregon Land Watch, Deschutes Land Trust, Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) & Oregon Wild.

A big thank you to the Forest Service and COTA for lending some hand tools to our very enthusiastic group and Bend Endurance Academy for lending their vans for transportation.

Two more work parties are scheduled for this Saturday and next to continue trail building and rehabilitation.

All of the grooming at Meissner Sno-Park is funded through our Supporters and Community Sponsors.  If you’d like to become a Supporter, click here.
